St. Andrew's Lutheran Church
Season of Unity
This time in the Christian calendar is an extended period called “ordinary time.” The English seasonal title "ordinary time" translates the Latin term Tempus per annum (literally "time through the year.") These weeks are regular, normal, ordinary; they mark time as it passes for us and they offer us a time to discover God’s extraordinary work all around us. The liturgical color is “Green” signifying creation, new life, growth, and vitality.
The word "unity" can bring many things to mind. In one sense it has historically meant coercing people to believe and participate in the same way. It has also been a liberative goal that stresses our shared interests even while preserving a high degree of diversity of beliefs and activities. Given our current divided political climate, God invites us into the difficult work of peace-making this season. We follow Christ's example of seeking unity not through coercion, but through conversation, understanding, and respect.
